The East Williston Fire Department proudly provides fire protection, emergency medical response, rescue services, and community support to the residents of East Williston and surrounding areas.

History of the Department

The history of the East Williston Fire Department dates back to 1889, when local volunteers joined together to establish organized fire protection for the growing community.

Over the decades, the department has expanded its capabilities, equipment, training, and emergency services while continuing to honor the strong volunteer tradition that built the organization.

1889

THE EAST WILLISTON
HOOK & LADDER COMPANY

The East Williston Hook & Ladder Company was formed by local volunteers to provide fire protection for the community.

1897

F.L. OAKLEY BECAME
FOREMAN

F.L. Oakley became Foreman of the East Williston Hook & Ladder Company.

1913

FIRST BY-LAWS
OFFICIALLY APPROVED

The department’s first formal by-laws were officially approved.

1926

EAST WILLISTON
OFFICIALLY INCORPORATED

East Williston officially became incorporated, and the organization became known as the East Williston Fire Department.

1892

JONATHAN POST
SERVED AS CHIEF

Jonathan Post served as Chief of the East Williston Hook & Ladder Company.

1912

ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
& FIRST BY-LAWS

The department held an organizational meeting and adopted its first official by-laws.

1922

MODERNIZED EMERGENCY
WARNING SYSTEMS

A motion was passed to modernize emergency warning systems and improve response operations.
